Patti Smith has left an Italian hospital after falling ill and canceling a performance in Bologna. The renowned artist had been on an eight-date tour in Italy since late November, starting in Ancona and concluding her last show on December 9th at Modena Cathedral.
Unfortunately, Smith’s scheduled performance at the Duse Theatre in Bologna on December 12th was called off due to her sudden illness. While in Bologna, she became unwell and was promptly taken to Maggiore Hospital. Fortunately, she was discharged on December 13th after a brief period of observation in the emergency department.
The Local Health Authority of Bologna stated, “Patti Smith is discharged and in good health conditions,” adding that she was seen smiling with hospital staff. The specific details of her illness have not been disclosed.
The Duse Theatre announced Smith’s illness, expressing regret and informing the audience that the concert could not proceed. They conveyed their apologies for any inconvenience and wished the artist a speedy recovery.
Scheduled performances in Venice on December 14th and Milan on December 15th were also canceled, with no information available on potential rescheduling.
Patti Smith took to Instagram to update fans, thanking the hospital staff and expressing regret for the canceled concerts. She assured fans that she would return to fulfill her commitments and extended gratitude to medical teams worldwide. Smith acknowledged her fortunate care while being mindful of those less fortunate.
