Ozzy Osbourne has expressed his shock and support for his former guitarist, Jake E. Lee, who was shot multiple times during a random shooting in Las Vegas early Tuesday morning.
Ozzy shared in a statement with TMZ:
“It’s been 37 years since I’ve seen Jake E. Lee, but that still doesn’t take away from the shock of hearing what happened to him today.
“It’s just another senseless act of gun violence. I send my thoughts to him and his beautiful daughter, Jade. I just hope he’ll be OK.”
Jake E. Lee is well-known for joining Ozzy’s solo band in 1983, where he made significant contributions to two of the band’s classic albums: Bark at the Moon (1983) and The Ultimate Sin (1986). However, his tenure with Ozzy came to an end in 1987. Following his departure, Lee went on to form the rock bands Badlands and Red Dragon Cartel, continuing to make his mark in the world of rock music.
Fellow Rockers Show Their Support
As the news of Jake E. Lee’s shooting spread, fellow rock stars reached out to share their support and well wishes on social media.
“To our friend Jake E. Lee – our thoughts, prayers, and concerns go out to you, my friend, after hearing the news of you being shot in Las Vegas today,” Poison frontman Bret Michaels wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “We are all pulling for you & hoping that you will have a speedy & incredible recovery.”
Journey’s Neal Schon kept his message brief but heartfelt, posting, “Crazy world. Take care Jake,” accompanied by a prayer emoji.
Night Ranger’s Brad Gillis, who was replaced by Lee in Ozzy’s band back in 1983, expressed relief over the positive news. “I just heard about Jake E Lee. Glad to hear he is doing well,” Gillis shared. “My thoughts are with ya, buddy!”
Stephen Pearcy, former bandmate of Lee in Ratt, also wished the guitarist well: “Speed[y] recovery, brother. Prayers are with ya.”
What Happened to Jake E. Lee?
Authorities believe that Jake E. Lee was the victim of a random shooting that took place around 2:40 AM in a suburban neighborhood, about 10 miles south of the Las Vegas Strip. The guitarist was walking his dog when the incident occurred. SiriusXM radio host Eddie Trunk shared that Lee was shot three times—in the chest, arm, and foot—but fortunately, the bullets missed major organs, and Lee is expected to make a full recovery.
