Orleans’ ’82 “Still The One” Performance Is Solid Gold

Performing hit “Still The One” in ’82, Orleans shines on the Solid Gold stage surrounded by phenomenal, spunky dancers and it’s a sight to see. As we discussed in a few of the previous posts, it was common for bands in the 60’s and 70’s to lip sync to recorded tracks during live performance and this show is no exception. There are even times when lead singer Larry Hoppen forgets to sing along to his own song, but we’re not judging!

Interesting Fact: During the presidential elections of 2004, George W. Bush tried to use this song as his campaign theme but was immediately ordered to cease.

The song was inspired by a couple that Orleans’ guitar player Hall and his wife knew experiencing a divorce at the time, trying to find light in the darkness and hope down the road for the two individuals. Initially Hall’s wife, Joanna, got the ball rolling with the lyrics and the two finished the song together.

“Still The One” is such a classic, feel-good love song that highlights the great things about being with another person, but also the struggles that some must endure to find and keep that connection.

Granted this is not the band’s greatest live performance and Larry can barely hit these notes anymore, but it is nice to see Orleans young and in their prime. Enjoy!
