After more than a decade apart, it seems that Noel and Liam Gallagher might finally be reuniting as Oasis. The speculation grew stronger during Liam’s closing set at the Reading Festival on Sunday when he performed Oasis’ debut album, Definitely Maybe, in its entirety. This iconic 1994 album is nearing its 30th anniversary reissue, and during the performance, Liam took a moment to acknowledge his brother.
“I wanna dedicate this song to Noel fucking Gallagher,” Liam proclaimed before diving into “Half the World Away.” As the set neared its end, a cryptic message appeared on the festival’s big screens: “27.08.24” and “8 am.”
Shortly after the festival, the same date appeared in brief video clips on Oasis’ social media channels, fueling speculation that a significant announcement might be coming on Tuesday.
Noel and Liam’s Subtle Hints of a Reunion
Recent developments have hinted at the possibility of Oasis reuniting. On August 24, the U.K.’s The Sunday Times reported, citing “industry insiders,” that Oasis could reunite in 2025 for a 10-night headlining run at London’s Wembley Stadium, along with additional performances in Manchester, the band’s hometown.
This report comes amid a period of unexpected friendship between the Gallagher brothers. In a recent interview with journalist John Robb, Noel expressed that Oasis songs “aren’t the same” when sung by him instead of Liam. Noel admitted:
“It’s the delivery or the tone of his voice and the attitude. I don’t have the same attitude as him.
“Liam’s is a shot of tequila, right, and mine’s half a Guinness. Mine’s half a Guinness on a Tuesday. It’s alright. Liam’s is ten shots of tequila on a fucking Friday night.”
Liam has also been interacting with fans about the rumored reunion. Earlier this month, he hinted at big plans for next year, telling one fan that they’d be “getting a lot next year.” When another fan criticized the rumored Manchester venue as “a terrible venue,” Liam responded, “See you down the front you big fanny.” He also tweeted that he “never did like that word FORMER” — a notable statement from someone often called the “former Oasis frontman.”
The Last Oasis Concert
Oasis last performed on August 22, 2009, at the V Festival in Staffordshire, England. The band’s notorious tensions finally boiled over, leading Noel to officially quit the group shortly before their next scheduled gig. Reflecting on that time, Noel recalled, “We were getting pissed and fighting, and then [it was] me going, ‘Fuck it, I’m going home. Fuck off!’” In hindsight, he expressed regret that the band didn’t end with an onstage fight.
