Neil Diamond – “Heartlight” Live | Society Of Rock Videos

Neil Diamond IS Forever!

“Heartlight” was inspired by the movie E.T. or Extra-Terrestrial which was a major blockbuster at that time. Neil Diamond wrote this along with Carole Bayer Sager and Burt Bacharach. After attending a screening, they went to the then-couple’s apartment to pen the lyrics. “Heartlight” is the luminous red glow of the E.T.’s heart as he leaves the Earth. It was said that they were asked to pay $25,000 to Universal Studios for using the idea from the film.

Diamond called it “A simple musical statement that we all felt very sincerely.”

This song is well-loved by Neil’s fans because it’s full of compassion and warmth and he sings it with a sweet melody.
