“Desiree” is included in Neil Diamond’s eleventh studio album, “I’m Glad You’re Here With Me Tonight.” It received a television special which was aired on November 17, 1977. Not only did it receive three Emmy Awards nomination but it also earned an Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Musical/Variety from the Directors Guild of America.
The special was a thematic and “behind the scenes” based program with interspersed live performances. It also features a pioneering segment with one of the earliest broadcasts of what would come to be known as a music video with its treatment of Diamond’s song “Morningside”.
The track was a chart-topper and it was well-loved by Neil’s fans. Though it’s not a staple in his concerts, “Desiree” is one of his most popular hits owing to the fact that it dominated the charts upon its release.
