In the world of music, creative differences and personal conflicts have led to the dissolution of many iconic partnerships. While some artists have managed to reconcile, others have remained steadfast in their decision to part ways permanently. Here are six musicians whose disputes have kept them from reuniting.

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham

Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham’s relationship began before their time in Fleetwood Mac, but their personal and professional ties became increasingly strained over the years. In 2018, Buckingham was dismissed from the band, leading him to file a lawsuit that was later settled. Nicks has since stated that she has given Buckingham ample chances and could only endure a brief conversation with him during Christine McVie’s memorial. Despite drummer Mick Fleetwood’s hope for reconciliation, Nicks has declared the band officially over and is focusing on her solo projects.

David Gilmour and Roger Waters

David Gilmour and Roger Waters of Pink Floyd have had a long-standing feud that dates back to the 1980s. After Waters left the band in 1985, he attempted to prevent the remaining members from using the Pink Floyd name, leading to legal battles. Gilmour has expressed no interest in working with Waters again, stating, “I have no regrets whatsoever.” Despite a brief reunion for the Live 8 concert in 2005, their relationship remains strained, with both artists continuing their solo careers separately.

John Fogerty and Creedence Clearwater Revival

John Fogerty’s tenure with Creedence Clearwater Revival ended in 1972 amid tensions over creative control and business disputes. Fogerty felt betrayed by the band’s record label and his bandmates, leading him to avoid performing CCR songs for over a decade. He has since resumed playing the band’s hits but has shown no interest in reuniting with the original members, focusing instead on his solo career.

Johnny Marr and Morrissey

The Smiths’ breakup in 1987 did not end the friction between Johnny Marr and Morrissey. In recent years, their disagreements have become more public, with Morrissey writing an open letter in 2022 asking Marr to “stop using my name as click-bait.” Their differing political views and past grievances have kept them from reconciling, and a reunion seems unlikely.

Peter Cetera left Chicago in 1985 to pursue a solo career, leading to tensions with his former bandmates. In 2016, Cetera declined to perform with Chicago at their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, citing disagreements over the setlist and rehearsal time. He has since continued his solo work, and there have been no indications of a future collaboration with the band.

Sebastian Bach’s departure from Skid Row in 1996 was marked by internal conflicts and disagreements over the band’s direction. Despite occasional talks of a reunion, Bach has stated that the band was “close to reuniting, but then it didn’t happen.” He continues to tour as a solo artist, while Skid Row has moved on with different lead singers.
