On a recent Saturday night at the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa, California, Michael Anthony made a special guest appearance. The former VAN HALEN bassist was not alone as he shared the stage with members of GREEN DAY. They were part of THE COVERUPS, a side project of the famous punk rock band. The group played some rock classics, much to the delight of fans. Michael Anthony and THE COVERUPS entertained with KISS’s energetic anthem “Rock And Roll All Nite”, as well as VAN HALEN hits like “Dance The Night Away” and “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love”.

A Blending of Classics and Collaboration

Michael Anthony’s performance came alive when GREEN DAY drummer Tré Cool stepped up for “Rock And Roll All Nite”. The crowd was thrilled, and they captured this moment and shared videos online for all to see. THE COVERUPS didn’t stop there. They kept the night’s energy high with an array of other famous songs. Their setlist included tunes from diverse bands such as PRETENDERS, BUZZCOCKS, and RAMONES, with a bonus of Bryan Adams’ well-known songs alongside.

This band, THE COVERUPS, started back in 2018 as a fun way for the members to play songs they loved. They’re not strangers to special collaborations. At a show in London at The Garage, none other than HOLE’s Courtney Love joined them. Together, they covered CHEAP TRICK with “He’s A Whore” and “Surrender”, as well as a rendition of “Even The Losers” by Tom Petty.

Meanwhile, GREEN DAY is not slowing down. They’re gearing up for a massive tour they’ve titled “The Saviors Tour”. It’s set to begin in Europe in late May, and then they will come back to thrill audiences in North America starting July 29 in Washington, D.C. They have quite the lineup with THE SMASHING PUMPKINS, RANCID, and THE LINDA LINDAS supporting them. This tour is extra special because GREEN DAY will be looking back and playing their iconic albums “Dookie” and “American Idiot” in full to mark their 30th and 20th anniversaries, respectively.

Michael Anthony Revisits Van Halen’s Greatest Hits

As for Anthony, his summer plans revolve around music that made him a household name. He is going on the road with Sammy Hagar, guitarist Joe Satriani, and drummer Jason Bonham. This tour will focus on VAN HALEN’s music, a delight for their long-time fans. Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony are well-versed in making tuneful magic together. They played in the group CHICKENFOOT, which recorded two albums and toured from 2009 to 2011, although during that time they did not perform VAN HALEN music.

More recently, the two have brought VAN HALEN songs to live audiences with the group SAMMY HAGAR AND THE CIRCLE, which includes guitarist Vic Johnson and drummer Jason Bonham. Their collaboration ensures that VAN HALEN’s legacy continues to be celebrated live. Called “The Best Of All Worlds”, the tour promises 28 dates of rock nostalgia. Produced by Live Nation, it kicks off on July 13 in West Palm Beach, Florida, and wraps up on August 31 in St. Louis, Missouri. For fans of VAN HALEN, these performances are not to be missed as they bring a mix of nostalgia and fresh, live energy to the beloved catalog.

Rock fans are in for a veritable feast of tours and performances this summer. From the punk rock vibes of GREEN DAY’s “The Saviors Tour” to the hard-hitting rock anthems played by THE COVERUPS, there’s a lot to look forward to. The added bonus of Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar reuniting to perform VAN HALEN hits is just the cherry on top for rock enthusiasts eager to relive the glory days.
