Metallica announces a four-night residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live! show to celebrate the upcoming release of their new album 72 Seasons.
The residency starts tonight ahead of their album release on Friday, April 14. The band tweeted:
“We’re celebrating #72Seasons release week by taking over late night! Catch us on @JimmyKimmelLive on ABC Monday, April 10 – Thursday, April 13 for four live performances, one night of chatting on the couch, and whatever other fun Jimmy has in store for us.”
Metallica mentioned that there will be musical guests each night for their “Metallica Week.” They wrote on social media:
“Keep your eyes peeled for other sightings during the broadcast, as we really don’t know what else Jimmy will get us involved in!”
While 72 Seasons is set to come out this Friday, the metal veterans will also celebrate their 12th studio album on Thursday, April 13 with a global premiere listening party in cinemas in 81 countries. Along with the album’s release, the band will proceed with their M72 World Tour, which will kick off on April 27 in Amsterdam.
Talking about the inspiration behind the new album’s name, James Hetfield said:
“72 seasons. The first 18 years of our lives that form our true or false selves.
“The concept that we were told ‘who we are’ by our parents. A possible pigeonholing around what kind of personality we are. I think the most interesting part of this is the continued study of those core beliefs and how it affects our perception of the world today. Much of our adult experience is reenactment or reaction to these childhood experiences. Prisoners of childhood or breaking free of those bondages we carry.”
