Matthew Already Picked Out His Funeral Song

The song played at Matthew Perry’s funeral carries a poignant significance, as it reflects his dedication to helping those struggling with addiction, a cause he was passionate about.

Matthew Perry, who sadly passed away last month at the age of 54, was honored in a private funeral ceremony on November 3rd. In the wake of his death, the Matthew Perry Foundation has been established to support individuals on their path to recovery from addiction.

Perry was an outspoken advocate for helping people combat their addictions, as he had personally wrestled with alcohol addiction. The foundation is committed to continuing his mission of assisting others in their battle with addiction and upholding his legacy.

In a statement prior to his passing, Perry expressed his wish to be remembered for his efforts to help people rather than solely as a member of the “Friends” cast. He emphasized the collective strength needed to overcome addiction and pledged to devote the remainder of his life to that cause.

Matthew Perry had established a sober living facility at one of his former residences. In an interview last year discussing his book “Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing,” he revealed that he wanted the song “Don’t Give Up” by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush to be played at his funeral. Perry had inscribed these words when signing his books for people.

In his book, he candidly shared his journey, including spending around $7 million on rehabilitation and undergoing 15 rehab stints in his pursuit of sobriety.

Perry’s “Friends” co-stars, including Courtney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Jennifer Aniston, and Matt LeBlanc, paid their respects at his private funeral, which took place at the Forest Lawn cemetery in the Hollywood Hills. Around 20 mourners were in attendance.

In a heartfelt statement, his co-stars referred to themselves as more than just castmates; they were a family. They expressed their deep sorrow and noted their intention to take time to grieve and process the loss before sharing more thoughts and memories in the future.

Matthew Perry’s commitment to helping those battling addiction and his lasting impact on the lives of many will be remembered as an integral part of his legacy.
