Peter Gabriel has opened 2026 by releasing new music, offering listeners an early look at his next studio project. The veteran artist has shared a fresh single to begin the year.

The song is titled “Been Undone” and serves as the first single from Gabriel’s upcoming album, o/i. The release follows 2023’s i/o, keeping alive the wordplay that has defined his most recent projects.

New Music and Creative Direction

Gabriel explained that the new material reflects different motivations behind his writing. “Some of these songs are going to form part of the brain project that I’ve been exploring for a number of years, and some just make me feel happy. I hope you like them,” he said.

The album will not arrive all at once. Instead, Gabriel plans to release one song with each full moon throughout 2026, the same approach he used on his previous record.

Release Plan and Availability

“Been Undone (Dark-Side Remix)” is now streaming and available for download on major digital platforms. The full album is expected by the end of the year, marking the next chapter in a release schedule that unfolds gradually for listeners.

Each song will also be paired with its own artwork. The piece for “Been Undone,” titled Ciclotrama 156 (Palindrome), was created by São Paulo–based artist Janaina Mello Landini, whose work plays a central role in the project’s visual side.

Art and Visual Collaboration

Gabriel praised Landini’s process and how it connects to the music. “The first artwork is a special piece from Janaina Mello Landini. The way she takes the rope and moves it out, unravelling it, is almost like fractals or tree trunks and looks like the brain in some ways too, so I see a lot of entry points,” he said.

He added, “We are using one of her existing images for this month to open the whole proceedings, but I’m excited that she’s now going to create a piece, especially for the song. That always gives it a little more excitement from my end to see what’s going to come up. Please do check out her work.”
