Led Zeppelin just shared the first teaser clip for the band’s first official documentary titled “Becoming Led Zeppelin”. The film recently premiered last weekend at the Venice Film Festival. The one-minute preview includes an archival footage of Led Zeppelin performing the classic hit “Good Times Bad Times”.
Guitarist Jimmy Page recently spoke to Associated Press and he revealed that they received several film pitches but that “they were pretty miserable.”
“Miserable and also to the point where they would want to be concentrating on anything but the music,” Page said.
And then, they received a leather-bound storyboard from producers Bernard MacMahon and Allison McGourty.
“This one, it’s everything about the music, and what made the music tick,” Page explained. “And it’s complete versions of song, not just a little sample and then talking heads. This is something in a totally different genre.”
“With Becoming Led Zeppelin my goal was to make a documentary that looks and feels like a musical,” director Bernard MacMahon said in a press release. “I wanted to weave together the four diverse stories of the band members before and after they formed their group with large sections of their story advanced using only music and imagery and to contextualise the music with the locations where it was created and the world events that inspired it.”
“Becoming Led Zeppelin” features never-before-seen footage, along with interviews with surviving members Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones. They also added archival interviews with late drummer John Bonham.
