Kenny Wayne Helps Usher In Austin City Limits’ 40th Anniversary!
If I had to pick a favorite blues guitarist that isn’t Stevie Ray Vaughan, it would definitely have to be Louisiana’s favorite son Kenny Wayne Shepherd. He’s amazing, and when Austin City Limits was celebrating its 40th anniversary back in 2014, Kenny was tapped to pay tribute to his longtime hero and ACL favorite Stevie Ray Vaughan with ‘The House Is Rockin’!
Though Stevie only made two appearances at Austin City Limits – one in 1983 and one in 1989 before his death a year later – the mark he left on the event was indelible.
This performance is outstanding! Kenny took the stage with Tommy Shannon and Chris Layton of Double Trouble, Stevie’s band and with Mike Farris on vocals, they were absolutely unstoppable. For a second, between the way Kenny ripped through Stevie’s solos and the energy created by the band, it was like Stevie came down for a hot second just to say hello!
+ The House Is Rockin’ lyrics +
Well, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother knockin’
Yeah, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother knockin’
If the house is a rockin’, don’t bother, come on in
Kick off your shoes start losin’ the blues
This old house ain’t got nothin’ to lose
Seen it all for years, start spreadin’ the news
We got room on the floor, come on baby shake sumpin’ loose
Well, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother knockin’
Yeah, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother knockin’
Yeah, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother come on in
Well, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother knockin’
Yeah, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother knockin’
Yeah, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother come on in
Walkin’ up the street you can hear the sound
Of some bad honky tonkers really layin’ it down
They’ve seen it all for years and ‘ave got nothin’ to lose
So get out on the floor shimmy ’til you shake sumpin’ loose
Well, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother knockin’
Yeah, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother knockin’
Yeah, the house is a rockin’, don’t bother come on in
I said the house is a rockin’, don’t bother come on in
