Janis Joplin Tells It All On The Dick Cavett Show

Janis Joplin Tells It All On The Dick Cavett Show | Society Of Rock Videos

“Don’t Call Me A Star. Call Me A Singer.”

Watching Janis Joplin interviews is always kind of a bittersweet activity; she didn’t give many of them during her short career, preferring to let her music do the talking for her, but it’s always a joy when you find the rare few that she did give. They give us a glimpse into someone who for all her bravado onstage was actually a very shy, introspective person who just really, really, wanted us to like her.

When interviewed by Dick Cavett in 1970, Janis opened up a little and came out of her shell as she dished on everything; from European audiences being more subdued at her shows, her creativity, even her hitchiking trip through South America!

Whether lovingly complaining about audiences or shyly correcting Dick Cavett when he calls her a star (“Please don’t call me a star. Call me a singer; that’s what I am.”), Janis was absolutely captivating when she spoke!
