Jane’s Addiction has just dropped a new song titled “True Love,” marking their second release of 2024 with the reunited classic lineup. This comes after a turbulent moment on stage that led to the cancellation of their reunion tour.
Dave Navarro Reflects on the Possible End of Jane’s Addiction
“True Love” follows the energetic track “Imminent Redemption” by about two months. This latest piece is a reflective, melancholy tune with clean guitar riffs and gentle drumming. Perry Farrell croons, “When I first felt true love, I was very young / I tried to describe it to my friends,” capturing the essence of those early, profound feelings: “You’re floating in something that’s way over your head / Wading in the waters of true love.”
The release comes on the heels of a dramatic incident during a show in Boston, where Farrell punched and shoved guitarist Dave Navarro. Farrell had to be escorted offstage, leading the band to cancel the remainder of their tour and announce a hiatus. In the aftermath, band members apologized to fans, fellow musicians, and each other.
Navarro’s Instagram Post
Navarro also shared his thoughts on Instagram, drawing parallels between Jane’s Addiction and the famous 19th-century poet Walt Whitman. He reflected on Whitman’s Leaves of Grass, noting, “The leaves represent the cycle of life and death, yet he continued to work on his poetry until his own death in 1892.” Navarro suggested that, like Whitman, they too are in a constant state of trying to understand and evolve their work.
He concluded with a poignant message:
“Perhaps it’s simpler to recognize when something is gone and learn from the magical lesson of grief rather than avoid it and remain in a consistent state of dissatisfaction.”
