James Hetfield Signed Guitar Sells for Over $25k | Society Of Rock Videos

Metallica’s James Hetfield donated a guitar at the 2022 MusiCares Charity Relief Auction through Julien’s Auctions held on Sunday, January 30.

Hetfield earned a winning bid of $32,000 by selling his signed black ESP guitar collaborated with Vulture and an official Metallica black T-shirt with words “got riff?” printed on it, accompanied with a hard-shell case and photographs of Hetfield signing the guitar as well as two custom guitar picks and a certificate of authenticity. The final price was over $25,000 above its $4,000 to $6,000 estimate.

Other guitars donated at the auction were Keith Richards’ signed Gibson ES-335 sold for $57,600 (estimated at $6,000–$8,000), Paul McCartney’s signed Hofner bass sold for $38,400 (estimated $3,000–$6,000), Tom Petty’s signed Gibson ES-355 sold for $35,200 (estimated $6,000–$8,000), Slash sold his signed Epiphone Slash Les Paul Deluxe electric guitar for $22,400 (twenty-two times its original estimate of $1,000).

In non-instrument items, two examples of Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder’s handwritten lyrics sold for $6,400 and $5,120. Ozzy Osbourne’s signed leather coat sold for $6,400. A jacket worn by late Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland sold for $4,480.

The MusiCares Foundation is a non-profit outreach that helps the humans behind music because music gives so much to the world. They offer preventive, emergency, and recovery programs, as well as financial, personal and medical assistance to musicians in need.
