In what many consider to be their breakout performance, the Rolling Stones were invited to perform on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 and as you could imagine, they suddenly shot straight to the top.
The Ed Sullivan Show was infamous for featuring artists on the show and suddenly the next day the band becoming overnight sensations as seen with such bands as the aforementioned Rolling Stones, The Doors (controversy aside), and most notably The Beatles.
Of course, it wasn’t enough to just play on the Ed Sullivan Show, you had to make a GREAT first impression and that’s exactly what the Rolling Stones did when they first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.
