Igor Presnyakov Covers Santana’s “Europa”
An Acoustic Take On Santana’s Classic Instrumental
There’s no denying that “Europa” is one of Carlos Santana’s finest works. He may have other legendary guitar solos but this one stands out. Every lick and riff is nothing short of perfect and even up to now, it receives heavy airplay from classic rock radio stations. If you think Santana can’t impress you further, here’s another fact: he composed this timeless instrumental. That’s right! We all know he’s a brilliant guitarist but he’s just as amazing in songwriting.
The 16 bar harmonic composition (chord progression) is that of the jazz standard “Autumn Leaves” (originally Les Feuilles Mortes”), with the first verse ending in the minor, and the last verse ending in the major.
Igor Presnyakov covers this instrumental in one of his YouTube videos. This Russian guitarist is known for his virtuoso playing style and his unique take on various popular tracks.
His [Igor] most noticeable attribute is his creative style of “beating” the percussion of the song, onto the body of his acoustic guitar while playing. This replicates the sound of multiple musicians, while only Igor is playing. He also rarely sings any of the lyrics to any kind of song that he covers, and instead translates them into a guitar melody, having his instrument sing the words.
He has over 600k subscribers and it’s no wonder why — he’s hands-down incredible!
