“Even Lovers Need A Holiday…”
Written in 1982 by American rock band Chicago, ‘Hard To Say I’m Sorry’ is possibly one of the most romantic songs ever written – seriously! Between the impossibly smooth harmonies and vocalist Peter Cetera’s trying desperately to hold on to a relationship that has fizzled out, promising to make up for his indiscretions by any means necessary, it’s pretty hard not to get sucked in by this uber-romantic soft rock ballad.
Fun Fact: Steve Lukather, David Paich and Steve Porcaro of the group Toto all played on this track.
It’s no wonder, then, that ‘Hard To Say I’m Sorry’ immediately shot to the #1 slot on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1982 and went #1 in two other countries! This footage is from Chicago’s official music video for ‘Hard To Say I’m Sorry’ which admittedly doesn’t make too much sense; but when you have a song this good, who cares if the video’s a little odd and drummer Danny Seraphine just appears from out of nowhere?
+ Hard To Say I’m Sorry lyrics +
Everybody needs a little time away
I heard her say
From each other
Even lovers need a holiday
Far away from each other
Hold me now
It’s hard for me to say I’m sorry
I just want you to stay
After all that we’ve been through
I will make it up to you
I promise to
And after all that’s been said and done
You’re just a part of me I can’t let go
Couldn’t stand to be kept away
Just for the day
From your body
Wouldn’t want to be swept away
Far away
From the one that I love
Hold me now
It is hard for me to say I’m sorry
I just want you to know
Hold me now
I really want to tell you I’m sorry
I could never let you go
After all that we’ve been through
I will make it up to you
I promise to
After all that’s been said and done
You’re just a part of me I can’t let go
After all that we’ve been through
I will make it up to you
I promise to
