Free Stuns With Incredible ’70 “All Right Now” Performance That Will Get You On Your Feet

Performing on BBC Four over 40 years ago, London rock band Free released their live-loving, free spirit into the world with the single “All Right Now” that we still hear quite often on commercials, gum chewing and car alike.

“I said hey, what’s your name baby, maybe we can see things the same. Now don’t you wait or hesitate, let’s move before they raise the parking rate…”

Written about a man achieving the attention of a beautiful lady of the night and taking her home, “All Right Now” was apparently scribed in less than 10 minutes according to bandmate and drummer, Tom Mautner.

“When we got into the dressing room, it was obvious that we needed an uptempo number, a rocker to close our shows. All of sudden, the Inspiration struck (bass player Andy) Fraser, and he started bopping around singing ALL RIGHT NOW… He sat down and wrote it right there in the dressing room. It couldn’t have taken more than 10 minutes.”

Interesting Fact: This is the first hit song with vocals by Paul Rodgers. He later joined Bad Company and also played with The Firm and Queen.

Although Paul Rogers was an incredible vocalist in performances we have seen, his pristine vocals in the set, just before his disbanded Free, give us goosebumps. Hearing clips and pieces of this song on the TV does not do it any justice compared to this stellar performance of one of the greatest and most underrated singers of the 70’s. Enjoy!
