Classic West Gets A Little Magic
In a year that’s seen Fleetwood Mac scattered to the four winds – Stevie Nicks on her 24 Karat Gold Tour, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie working on their joint solo effort and John McVie and Mick Fleetwood doing guest spots on the aforementioned album – it was good to see the band together again and back in action for this weekend’s headlining performance at Classic West. An enchanting evening that saw Fleetwood Mac kick things off with “The Chain” and a heartfelt dedication of “Landslide” to late Eagle Glenn Frey, the real magic happened when it came time for the ever-ethereal “Rhiannon” to shine, fans erupting into furious applause and screams of delight the moment they heard Mick Fleetwood’s shimmering cymbal intro paired with Lindsey Buckingham’s gentle guitar lick.
Fun Fact: The song is always referred to as simply ‘Rhiannon’ on Fleetwood Mac albums. The suffixed title ‘Rhiannon (Will You Ever Win)’ was used only on singles in certain territories.
This performance of “Rhiannon” is a confident Fleetwood Mac secure in the knowledge that no matter where life takes their respective solo careers, at the end of the day they’ll always find their way back home to each other; there’s just the music to focus on, with Stevie Nicks swanning about at center stage, orbited by Lindsey, John, Christine, and Mick. Before they head out on their 2018 global tour, check out Fleetwood Mac’s magical take on “Rhiannon” at Classic West and stay tuned – Classic East is just days away!
