Fans Petition For Long Overdue Styx Rock Hall Induction
Over 2,600 Fans Have Signed
A group of STYX fans has started an online petition calling for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to recognize the band by inducting them.
“For 20-plus years STYX has been eligible for induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame,” Ken Shafer, one of the fan organizers said in a statement. “Their influence and accomplishments warrant their induction alongside their peers.”
“We created our online petition to demonstrate to the Hall that fans of STYX want to see them receive this recognition,” he continued. “Our hopes are that the Hall will recognize this and at the very least put STYX on a ballot for inclusion.”
STYX has, in fact, never been nominated. Cofounder and former singer Dennis DeYoung has resigned to the fact that they simply weren’t the kind of rock outfit the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame wanted.
“Fans of bands like Styx, Journey, Boston, Foreigner and others, are stuck with the fact that the people who decide who is worthy of induction are for the most part the same ones who never liked these bands,” he explained. “Anything said by any of us who were in those groups in defense will sound like sour grapes no matter how valid the statistics, how persuasive the arguments.”
