Puddles Pity Party Tackles Pink Floyd
A striking figure standing at a towering 7 feet tall and dressed in a black and white clown costume, Puddles the Clown isn’t your regular, run of the mill birthday clown.
For one, he’s got an air of sadness that makes you want to have a beer with him and listen to his life story, and two, he’s got one hell of a singing voice – one that’s seen Puddles achieve the sort of stardom that comes with coloring outside the lines. Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, Puddles (known as Big Mike Geier in real life) has made a career of out blending that sadness and quirkiness with a love for music, achieving notoriety with covers like the killer “Folsom Prison Blues/Pinball Wizard” mashup that amassed well over a million views earlier this year.
Who Is Puddles?
“I like posting videos of music and sad and funny things. The world is a sad and beautiful place and it’s OK to feel sad sometimes. Keep weepin’ and keep the party going. It feels good. Let me know how you feel. We’re in this together.”
These days, you’ll find Puddles staking his claim on a pop-up coffee shop called Coffee Can, camped out in the far corner with his acoustic guitar where he takes song requests from fans on the internet and learns them in time to record them from the comfort of his new favorite haunt, delighting one lucky fan in particular when he served up a cover of Pink Floyd’s acoustic driven marvel “Wish You Were Here”.
From there, it’s a match made in heaven; known for its wistful sound and themes of regret and longing, “Wish You Were Here” is the perfect fit for Puddles, allowing him to navigate that deep set sadness in a way that’s as familiar to him as the costume that’s long since become a second skin and makes you want to curl up at his feet and just…listen.
It’s not everyday that we run into a Pink Floyd cover that makes us smile, but Puddles succeeds in spades and we couldn’t be more pleased – check out his cover of “Wish You Were Here” in the video below!
