Eric Clapton and Sheryl Crow – Little Wing
Fly On, Little Wing
What a gorgeous tribute by two world class musicians to Jimi Hendrix. You can’t really beat the combination of Eric Clapton’s guitar skills with Sheryl Crow’s powerhouse vocals behind them, performing the classic ‘Little Wing’.
Featured on Jimi’s 1967 release Axis: Bold As Love, “Little Wing” is one of our favorite songs. The song talks about a feminine ideal;
“Sometimes she is a spirit, sometimes a fantasy, sometimes a woman as solidly, palpably physical as he [Jimi] is,”
Jimi’s brother Leon Hendrix says that Jimi wrote “Little Wing” for the women in his life – their beloved mother, Jimi’s girlfriends, various aunts – all women of great beauty and great strength. When you put it that way, it’s no wonder Eric Clapton chose Sheryl to accompany him on his tribute to his dear friend Jimi!
Check out this amazing live cover of ‘Little Wing’ – we think Jimi would have loved it just as much as we do!
+ Little Wing lyrics +
With a circus mind
That’s running wild
Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams
And fairly tales,That’s all she ever thinks about
Riding with the wind
When I’m sad she comes to me
With a thousand smiles
She gives to me free
It’s alright, she says
It’s alright
Take anything you want from me
Anything
