Lisa Marie Presley gave her full support to Austin Butler, who played as her father, Elvis Presley, in the 2022 film, Elvis, and the actor certainly did not disappoint.
During that time, Lisa Marie expressed her support for Butler by saying in her official Instagram post:
“Austin Butler channeled and embodied my father’s heart and soul beautifully. In my humble opinion, his performance is unprecedented and FINALLY done accurately and respectfully. (If he doesn’t get an Oscar for this, I will eat my own foot, haha.)”
Butler eventually won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. During that evening, Lisa Marie and her mother Priscilla were in the audience. The 31-year-old actor did not forget to thank them in his speech. He said:
“…thank you guys, thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me. Lisa Marie and Priscilla I love you forever.”
Two days after, Lisa Marie passed away. Butler addressed the sad news in a statement, saying:
“I am eternally grateful for the time I was lucky enough to be near her bright light and will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared. Her warmth, her love and her authenticity will always be remembered.”
Then on the 24th of January, the Oscar nominations were announced. Elvis was nominated in seven different categories, including Best Picture and Butler was also nominated for Best Actor, as many people had predicted. Brendan Fraser, Bill Nighy, Paul Mescal, and Colin Farrell are among his fellow nominees.
