Elton John and Weird Al Nominated For 2023 Emmys

The 2023 Emmy Award candidates included Elton John, Weird Al Yankovic, and the Fleetwood Mac-inspired sitcom Daisy Jones & the Six.
Three nominations were made for Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium, including Best Variety Special (Live). The Rocket Man already holds a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony; a victory in the category would give him EGOT status.
John said via statement following his nomination:
“It’s an honor for my Special to be recognized by the Academy. My final Dodger Stadium performance was bittersweet and an evening that I will never forget.
“My team at Rocket Entertainment, the talented Fulwell 73, and everyone at Disney+ went above and beyond to create a magical production, not only for me as I said goodbye to North America, but for my fans all over the world to enjoy for years to come.”
Eight Emmy Nominations for Weird Al
The tongue-in-cheek (fictitious) biography of the beloved parody singer, Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, received an amazing eight Emmy nominations. Yankovic received two nominations: Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie and Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics for the song “Now You Know.” Daniel Radcliffe, who played Yankovic in the film, received one nomination: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.
Yankovic tweeted immediately after the Emmy nominees were announced:
“Sorry for screaming at the top of my lungs, but WEIRD: THE AL YANKOVIC STORY JUST GOT EIGHT EMMY NOMINATIONS!!!!”
Emmy Nods for the Holiday Show
The David Bowie documentary Moonage Daydream, which got five nominations, and Dolly Parton’s Mountain Magic Christmas, which is up for two honors, are two other noteworthy Emmy nominees. Gorillaz, an animated rock band, was nominated in the Outstanding Emerging Media Program category, while the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert broadcast from London was nominated in the Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special category.
