Elton John assured his fans that his new album will “Surprise the S—” out of them.
Although the 76-year-old music icon may have retired from touring, he has unfailingly created new music now and then. During the induction of Bernie Taupin into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last Friday, where John himself did the honors for the ceremony, he revealed that the two of them have completed a brand new LP.
John announced to the crowd the news by saying:
“We’ve just finished an album in Los Angeles.”
He said at the podium:
“Which is going to surprise the shit out of you — oh I can’t swear! And it’s absolutely wonderful. It’s full of youth and it’s full of vitality, and it’s a wonderful place to be after we’ve been together for 56 years.”
John added, about Taupin and him:
“We climbed mountains that we never thought were possible to climb, and we scaled heights that we never thought were possible to scale…”
The two last worked together in 2016 when they did the Wonderful Crazy Night. Regarding this new album that John was talking about, there are no further details yet, not even a release date for the upcoming LP.
Looking through his most recently released pieces, John did the Lockdown album in 2021, which featured some of the best artists in history like Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Miley Cyrus, and more. He also released Regimental Sgt. Zippo album the same year, although it was originally recorded in the late ’60s was ultimately kept in the archives. By 2022, the “Hold Me Closer” with Britney Spears was then released. This song included some parts of John’s “Tiny Dancer,” “The One” and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.” The two have peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100.
