First the album, then the novel, and now a movie. Dolly Parton is really giving life to “Run, Rose, Run” with its film adaptation already on its way.

Just recently, the legendary country singer released her latest album on March 4 inspired by the book she collaborated with acclaimed novelist James Patterson that was released on March 7. Parton wrote some parts of the novel and made 12 songs compiled into the album with the same title as the book.

In the audiobook for Run, Rose, Run, Parton voices the character Ruthanna. But the singer-songwriter once said that she would want to play the character on-screen:

“I’m hoping to get to play that character when we do a movie of the book. Which we hope to do, at some point.”

Parton is no longer hoping as the project is being brought to life with the help of Hello Sunshine, the production company of famed actress Reese Witherspoon. Witherspoon herself will serve as the producer for the film.

Witherspoon said in a statement of the movie:

“Growing up in Nashville, I’ve loved Dolly since the moment I heard her magical voice and saw her luminous personality shine onstage.

“Beyond her magnetic presence as an artist and performer, she is one of the greatest songwriters and storytellers of our time. Her impact knows no bounds — as a musician, actor, writer, businesswoman, activist, and all-around incredible human being – Dolly Parton is not only an icon to me, but a true inspiration to women and girls everywhere.”

Witherspoon added:

“My admiration for her grew to even greater heights when reading Run, Rose, Run a gripping and heartbreaking book I couldn’t put down.

“I couldn’t feel more honored to be working alongside her and James to bring this remarkable story to the screen.”

Parton couldn’t be happier to be involved, she shared:

“I’m proud, excited, and honored to be working with my good friend Reese Witherspoon and Hello Sunshine on the movie of Run, Rose, Run from the novel I co-wrote with James Patterson. James and I love Reese and look forward to working with her and her wonderful team.”

Parton has appeared in classic movies such as 9 to 5, Steel Magnolias, and The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. Her most recent appearance was in the 2020 film Christmas on the Square.
