In an unexpected musical rendezvous, country music icon Dolly Parton has joined forces with Italian sensations Måneskin to breathe new life into her timeless 1973 hit, “Jolene.” The revamped track is exclusively available through a digital download of Parton’s latest album, “Rockstar,” offered for purchase on her official website.
But that’s not all!
The digital download of “Rockstar” unveils an additional gem from the album sessions – Parton’s rendition of Eddie Money’s 1977 classic, “Two Tickets To Paradise.”
“Rockstar,” which dropped last Friday, boasts an impressive lineup of guest stars, including musical luminaries like Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Stevie Nicks, Steven Tyler, Peter Frampton, Rob Halford, Richie Sambora, Steve Perry, John Fogerty, Debbie Harry, Elton John, and more.
Parton, adorned on the cover of the latest issue of Classic Rock, shared insights into the album, emphasizing the transformative journey she undertook with this project.
“I do think rock is an attitude,” Parton reflects. “In fact, I found that out for myself when I started singing those rock’n’roll songs. Standing there and remembering all the originals, I thought: ‘Oh my god, I’ve got to make sure that I’m true to this.’”
“I’m a stylist, I sing a certain way. But I also knew that I had to buckle down to it, because it’s different from doing regular country songs, where you can just lay back and do it any way you please. There’s more aggression in rock’n’roll, which I found energizing. And you’ve got to treat it with respect, because it is its own thing.”
Meanwhile, Måneskin, not to be outdone, dropped a new music video for their latest single, “The Driver,” on Friday.
This track is part of the expanded edition of their second album this year, “Rush! (Are U Coming?).”
Dolly Parton’s unexpected collaboration with Måneskin serves as a testament to the enduring power of her music, bridging generations and genres. As fans indulge in the fresh take on “Jolene,” it’s evident that Parton’s musical journey continues to evolve, embracing the spirit of rock with open arms.
