The first single from Depeche Mode‘s upcoming album Memento Mori, “Ghosts Again,” has been released.

The singer Dave Gahan described the track as a “perfect balance of melancholy and joy.” While his bandmate, Martin Gore, added:

“It’s not often that we record a song that I just don’t get sick of listening to – I’m excited to be able to share it.”

Memento Mori will be made available this coming March 24, marking Depeche Mode’s first new music since the death of co-founding member Andy Fletcher at the age of 60 after an “aortic dissection.”

The title of the LP came from the Latin words that translate to “remember that you must die” and was chosen way back before Fletcher’s death. The songs were also written beforehand, Gahan said at the time of the album announcement:

“After Fletch’s passing, we decided to continue as we’re sure this is what he would have wanted, and that has really given the project an extra level of meaning.

“Fletch would have loved this album.”

Gore said that Fletcher “was always seen as the band’s glue. It would’ve been unthinkable for him to think that his death would’ve caused the end.”

Depeche Mode will also embark on their worldwide tour on March 23, the day before the release of Memento Mori. Stream the song below.
