Def Leppard Release Soul Classic Cover Of “Stand By Me” By Ben E. King

Def Leppard has reinterpreted the well-known soul song “Stand By Me,” which was first made popular by Ben E. King in 1961. The band is using the song to change the world, not merely to honor a classic. FireAid, a nonprofit organization devoted to aiding communities in their recovery from the terrible California wildfires, will receive all track profits.

“Los Angeles and its surrounding area has always played a central role in Def Leppard’s career,” frontman Joe Elliott shared. “From it being where some of us are based and it being our US hub for rehearsals, to being the city where we played our first-ever American gig.” He went on to say, “We feel blessed to be able to dedicate this song and give all the royalties to the amazing heroes in LA helping those affected by the fires. No better song.”

FireAid Brings Music Legends Together

The release of the song comes after the all-star lineup of the FireAid benefit concerts in Inglewood, California. Highlights included a surprising reunion of Nirvana’s remaining members, Pink’s stunning rendition of a Led Zeppelin classic, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ amazing four-song set.

No Doubt (who were reunited for the occasion), Stevie Nicks, Green Day, Olivia Rodrigo, Sting, Lady Gaga, and others were among the other well-known performers who graced the stage.

The Impact of the California Wildfires

California has been devastated by the continuous wildfires; the Palisades Fire, which started on January 7, is the third most damaging in the history of the state. The fire, which has burned over 23,400 acres, is currently 98% contained, but not before 29 people were killed and over 200,000 people had to be evacuated.
