Country music sensation Kane Brown has dropped his latest single, “I Can Feel It,” and listeners with a taste for classic rock will likely recognize a familiar sound in the song.
In this new track, Brown skillfully weaves in the iconic drum beat from Phil Collins’ legendary hit, “In the Air Tonight.” Interestingly, Phil Collins himself is credited as a songwriter for “I Can Feel It,” alongside Brown, Gabe Foust, and Jaxson Free.
Despite the generational gap, Brown was born in 1993, a full 12 years after the release of “In the Air Tonight,” he developed a profound admiration for this iconic track. Brown shared that the inspiration for his song struck him while he was performing at Stagecoach this year. He envisioned a memorable onstage collaboration with Phil Collins, although logistical challenges prevented it from happening.
Nevertheless, Collins gave his enthusiastic approval for Brown to draw inspiration from his masterpiece. With this green light, Brown crafted a high-energy track, taking cues from the classic Collins tune. In a nod to its influence, he even named his upcoming spring concert series the In the Air Tour.
‘In the Air Tonight’ Makes a Splash on Monday Night Football
Kane Brown’s incorporation of “In the Air Tonight” is the latest example of the song’s resurgence. In a recent edition of Monday Night Football, a star-studded trio featuring country artist Chris Stapleton, rapper Snoop Dogg, and drummer Cindy Blackman Santana (who is both a bandmate and the wife of Carlos Santana) delivered a genre-blending rendition of the classic track.
Cindy Blackman Santana expressed her excitement and honor at being part of this iconic event, song, and video with Chris and Snoop, describing it as an absolute blast on social media shortly after the cover’s debut.
