Guitarist Chad Gilbert of New Found Glory is recovering after undergoing surgery to remove three brain tumors, marking the latest chapter in a long and difficult health journey.

A History of Ongoing Health Struggles

Gilbert, who co-founded New Found Glory in 1997, has endured a series of serious medical challenges over the past few years. In 2021, he underwent emergency surgery following a diagnosis of metastatic pheochromocytoma, a rare form of adrenal gland cancer.

While that procedure was initially successful, further complications soon emerged. Doctors later discovered a tumor on his spine, requiring additional treatment. By 2025, Gilbert revealed he had undergone radiation therapy after a cancerous spot was identified on his back, underscoring the persistent and unpredictable nature of his condition.

Sudden Symptoms and Urgent Diagnosis

In a recent update shared on Instagram, Gilbert detailed the alarming onset of new symptoms earlier this year.

“On February 20th, I played a show in Nashville and was struggling to control the movements of my left hand,” he explained.

He continued:

“My left leg was getting weaker by the day and I started stumbling and falling at times.”

By February 23, the situation had escalated, prompting a visit to the emergency room. A CT scan revealed three new tumors in his brain, leading to immediate medical intervention.

Surgery, Recovery, and Looking Ahead

Surgery took place on February 27 and was reported to be successful. Gilbert has since been recovering in the hospital, gradually regaining strength.

He shared a message of cautious optimism, recalling his radiation oncologist’s words:

“This is not a fatal blow and not the end of your story, just the beginning of a new chapter.”

Reflecting on his recovery, Gilbert admitted, “My recovery has been bumpy at times but I’m feeling much better now and getting stronger by the day.”

He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who have supported him and his family, thanking everyone who has “checked in on me and helped my family during this lengthy and challenging journey.”

Closing on a hopeful note, Gilbert reassured fans that more updates—and more music—are on the horizon:

“Love you all and am looking forward to sharing more music and fun with you as we come out of this.”

For Gilbert, the road ahead may still carry uncertainty, but his message reflects a renewed sense of purpose shaped by years of resilience. As he continues to recover, his determination to return to music underscores not only his personal strength but also the enduring bond between artist and audience—one that remains unshaken even in the face of adversity.
