My Sweet Lord

As his first solo single ever, we would have to say George Harrison’s “My Sweet Lord” takes the cake as one of the greatest feel-good tunes ever made. Singing his hit, George calms us with his always peaceful message and soothing voice and we honestly cannot help but get carried away watching this performance.

“I really want to see you, really want to be with you, really want to see you Lord.. but it takes so long, my Lord…”

While studying Eastern religions at this point in his life, George felt compelled to share these words with the world in an attempt to display the scarce differences between Catholicism and Hinduism, with the chant “Hare Krishna/ Hallelujah” appearing often throughout the song. Another inspiration behind the song, namely the beat, was the gospel song “Oh Happy Day” and if you listen closely, you can definitely hear the similarities.

Interesting Fact: In 1976, Bright Tunes Music sued Harrison because this sounded too much like the 1963 Chiffons hit “He’s So Fine.” Bright Tunes was controlled by The Tokens, who set it up when they formed the production company that recorded “He’s So Fine” – they owned the publishing rights to the song.

Despite the drama that George encountered writing this song, his intentions and message were pure and we know that in our hearts when we hear this stunning melody that immediately causes us to melt and sway from side-to-side. Enjoy this wonderful, live performance and miss George along with us!
