Soundstage, 1975
With a band like Three Dog Night, it’s hard to not want to get up and celebrate something – anything! Their soul infused brand of feel good music never ceases to make us smile, and the fact that band members Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron and the late Cory Wells had such a great time together onstage was just icing on the cake. Three Dog Night’s 1975 performance on the iconic music show Soundstage featured the lively closing number ‘Celebrate,’ one that Danny Hutton says the band loved to close out their shows with, and it shows; for over 4 minutes, it’s a party onstage as both the band and their audience take time out of the night to celebrate – the music, each other, the experience of being alive and together even for just a moment.
It’s an electrifying experience, and while the entire band gets a moment to shine on lead vocals, the real magic happens when they’re a united front.
Fun Fact: America’s most popular pop group from 1969-1974, they scored one top 40 single every three months for almost six years straight.
It’s the tragedy of my life that I never got to see Three Dog Night at the height of their fame. Between their high energy, non-stop performances, boy next door good looks and nearly flawless 3 part harmonies, Three Dog Night had it made – and that, my friends, is definitely something to celebrate!

Slippin’ away, sittin’ on a pillow
Waitin’ for night to fall
A girl and a dream, sittin’ on a pillow
This is the night to go to the celebrity ball
Satin and lace, isn’t it a pity
Didn’t find time to call
Ready or not, gonna make it to the city
This is the night to go to the celebrity ball
Dress up tonight, why be lonely?
You’ll stay at home and you’ll be alone
So why be lonely?
Sittin’ alone, sittin’ on a pillow
Waitin’ to climb the walls
Maybe tonight, depending how your dream goes
She’ll open her eyes when he goes to the celebrity ball
Celebrate, celebrate, dance to the music
Celebrate, celebrate, dance to the music
Celebrate, celebrate, dance to the
