Come With Me!

“Born to Run” was written and recorded by Bruce Springsteen. It was released on August 25, 1975 for his third studio album of the same title. It was penned in New Jersey in 1974. It’s basically a love letter for someone named Wendy. The first time Springsteen played this live was during an opening for Bonnie Raitt on May 9, 1974.

Upon its release, music critic Robert Christgau took note of its wall of sound influence and called it “the fulfillment of everything ‘Be My Baby’ was about and lots more.”

Even before “Born To Run” became a massive success, Springsteen was already gaining popularity because of his amazing concerts and live shows. After its release, it eventually became a staple in his repertoire and it was what propelled him to stardom.

In the liner notes to his Greatest Hits album, Springsteen wrote: “My shot at the title. A 24 yr. old kid aimin’ at ‘The greatest rock ‘n roll record ever.'”

During his 1988 tour, Springsteen performed a slower version and altered the lyrics. That one made it to the charts in England!
