AC/DC singer Brian Johnson recently had an appearance at Sam Fender’s show in their hometown of Newcastle in northeast England.
Johnson appeared on stage halfway through the June 10 show at St. James’ Park, the home of the Newcastle United soccer team. The pair delivered their rendition of AC/DC classics “Back in Black” and “You Shook Me All Night Long.”
Both artists continued their connections with their birthplaces and they are both known for keeping their strong local “Geordie” accents. Johnson, 75, was born in the Dunston area while Fender, 29, grew up in nearby North Shields. At the show, Fender’s band was seen wearing Newcastle United shirts.
The show marks the second of two dates by Fender at the stadium. Upon the concert’s announcement, Fender said:
“It’s been a running joke since we started the band.
“We used to be like, ‘Ah, imagine if we headlined St James’ one day!’ Now that it’s happening, it’s a little bit bizarre.”
He then added:
“No actual Geordie band has ever done it. Brian Johnson did it with AC/DC, but they were already an Australian band that were doing well. For the whole band to be from the area and to play there, it’s a really, really big thing for us.”
Meanwhile, AC/DC are set to play at the inaugural Power Trip festival in Indio, CA., in October.
