The Director Is “Taking A Break”

The upcoming biopic titled Midas Man, which focuses on Beatles manager Brian Epstein, has shut down mid-production following the exit of director Jonas Akerlund. Filming started last month in Liverpool, and the cast included Jacob Fortune-Lloyd as Epstein, Emily Watson, Eddie Marsan, Lukas Gage, Rosie Day and Bill Milner.

“The director of Midas Man Jonas Akerlund is taking a break from the film,” the production told Deadline. “Until some matters become clearer, we are not able to add any further comment to this statement.”

“In the meantime, we can confirm that filming of Midas Man will continue in London in November before breaking for Christmas,” the statement continued. “Filming will restart in early January in Los Angeles.”

A reliable source told Deadline that Akerlund was unlikely to return to the project and talks with a new director had already begun. Akerlund’s departure is reportedly because of other work commitments.

Midas Man tells the story of Epstein — a Liverpudlian record shop manager who ended up signing the biggest band of all time. Aside from The Beatles, Epstein also discovered other musicians like Gerry And The Pacemakers, Cilla Black, and Billy J Kramer. Epstein even helped promote guitar legend Jimi Hendrix.
