The End Of An Era
You tuned in every Saturday morning to hear her voice your favorite cartoon characters – Rocky the Flying Squirrel, Natasha Fatale, Cindy Lou Who when the holidays rolled around – and now, legendary voice actress June Foray is gone, dead at the age of 99 – just 8 weeks shy of her 100th birthday.
Best known for her role as Rocky & Bullwinkle’s Rocky the Flying Squirrel and our favorite small screen villain Natasha Fatale, Foray’s career as a voice actress spanned nearly 80 years, beginning in 1937 with her own radio series Lady Make Believe before quickly becoming a popular fixture on coast to coast network shows such as The Jimmy Durante Show. Until her retirement in 2014, Foray’s love for voice acting found her becoming the voice of childhood – from Rocky & Bullwinkle and How the Grinch Stole Christmas to the sweet old Granny from Looney Tunes and countless other beloved characters from a simpler time.
She even earned the distinction of becoming, at age 94, the oldest entertainer to be nominated for, and to win, an Emmy Award.
Miss Foray’s death was confirmed by longtime friend Dave Nimitz, and our hearts are with those who loved her and those who, like us, owe some of their fondest childhood memories to the legacy she created.
