The punk rock musician who rose to fame as a member of the band Generation X, William Michael Albert Broad, also known as Billy idol, has announced a new EP, The Cage.
The soon-to-be released EP contains four-track record. It will be out on Sept. 23 and will be available in CD and vinyl formats, including a limited-edition red vinyl. The co-producer Tommy English, who co-wrote three of the songs with Idol said that the inspiration for The Cage was the energy stored up in people coming out of the lockdown era. He added:
“Getting out there and doing the things we’ve been missing. And that includes not being afraid to do a raucous punk rock song like this. And we didn’t worry about whether it fit in anywhere because it just sounds so Billy.”
The artist shared the news by tweeting:
“I’m very excited to announce The Cage EP, to be released on Sept 23 via @darkhorserecords! You can stream and download the single “Cage,” right now and pre-order the EP on your choice of CD, vinyl LP, and limited edition red vinyl LP.”
The Cage is reportedly a harder-sounding record than the previously released EP. His longtime guitarist, Steven, said earlier this year that the EP is heavy. He noted that the new EP is a “flip side” to its more delicate predecessor. Steven said:
“We wanted it to be personal and intimate on the first go-round, but this one is big and heavy and the other side of the coin.”
Idol was scheduled to tour alongside Journey during the first half of the year, but a chronic sinus infection required him to undergo surgery. It forced him to pull out of the trek. He went through months of recovery because the infection was resistant to antibiotics.
Recently, reports were spreading that he made a full recovery and is back on the road. The singer is now scheduled to play a handful of tours in America and across Europe. Check out the track listing of The Cage and watch the official music video below.
