In a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s The Spectrum, Billy Idol performed an acoustic version of his 1982 single, “White Wedding.” He and guitarist Steve Stevens stopped by SiriusXM’s Garage Studio in Los Angeles to promote his latest EP titled “The Roadside”. He sat down for an interview and played stripped-down versions of some of his classics.
“White Wedding” was one of Idol’s most popular hits, and its accompanying music video helped propel him to superstardom. The concept was a goth wedding complete with vampire imagery, barbed-wire wedding ring, and a motorcycle crashing through the window of the church.
Meanwhile, “The Roadside” is Idol’s first new release in almost seven years. The four-song EP touched on Idol’s motorcycle accident over three decades ago.
“I got together with (songwriters) Joe Janiak and Tommy English – I came on my bike to that session, too – and we started talking about how the accident was a watershed moment,” Idol explained to USA Today. “I was a bit of a drug addict back then, and I decided that when I was high on the bike, that wasn’t the right thing and I would hopefully clean myself up.”
Idol will embark on a UK arena tour in 2022, and he will be supported by The Go-Go’s.
