In recent developments, it seems that the time-traveling duo, Bill and Ted, might be gearing up for yet another adventure. Alex Winter, who plays Bill alongside Keanu Reeves’ Ted, recently shared in an interview with The Sarah O’Connell Show that discussions are underway for a fourth installment in the beloved franchise.
The journey of Bill & Ted has been nothing short of a rollercoaster.
After the initial success in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the franchise went quiet for almost three decades until the release of “Bill & Ted Face the Music” in 2020. The film marked the return of the iconic characters, now middle-aged and grappling with their own mortality, alongside the introduction of their teenage daughters, Billie and Thea.
Despite facing challenges, including a release during the height of the pandemic, “Bill & Ted Face the Music” was well-received by those who had the chance to see it. Winter acknowledged its success on various on-demand platforms, hinting at the possibility of a fourth movie.
According to Winter, the creative minds behind the franchise, original screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, are currently “tinkering with a fourth movie idea that all of us like.” Winter expressed enthusiasm about the project, stating that if the fourth film materializes, it has to be done right.
“We love [the Bill & Ted movies] because they’re oddball, and they’re not typical mainstream films,” Winter shared. “They’ve never been cash-grab movies; nobody has gotten rich off the Bill and Ted series. We really do make them sincerely from a place of love and interest.”
Winter refrained from revealing specific details about the fourth movie’s concept but emphasized that it’s a “really good idea, an obvious idea.” The actor assured fans that the idea would be developed and explored further, with hopes of bringing it to fruition.
“We’ll see if we can actually get it made,” Winter added.
The uncertainty surrounding the potential fourth installment only adds to the intrigue for fans of the Bill & Ted series.
Winter’s assurances that the creative team is approaching the project with genuine passion and dedication are likely to fuel anticipation for what comes next in the iconic time-traveling saga.
As discussions continue, fans can revisit “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” currently available for rent on various platforms. For those who may have missed it due to its unfortunate release date, Winter’s full interview provides additional insights into the ongoing developments of the beloved franchise.
