Middle school janitor Richard Goodall from Indiana became a national sensation with his moving performance on Season 19 of America’s Got Talent. Performing Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’,” Goodall captivated the judges, leading Heidi Klum to hit the Golden Buzzer, which sent him directly to the live shows. Country singer Walker Hayes surprised Goodall with a new car in recognition of his talent and journey. Since his audition aired in May, millions have watched it, and Goodall has expressed amazement at his sudden rise to fame.
Goodall confirmed this, telling Parade:
“Walker has a foundation inspired by his own experience. After losing his record deal and with six kids to support, he had to return his van. A friend named Craig stepped in and gifted him a van during that difficult time, which inspired Walker’s song ‘Craig.’ When Walker found success, he established the Be a Craig Fund to help others in need of a reliable vehicle.”
WTWO WAWV TV reports that Goodall became emotional and broke into tears when Hayes surprised him with the generous gift. He told Parade:
“Walker pulled up in a brand new 2024, which to me this is surreal because being a singer and the name of the car is a Buick Encore, so to me it’s kind of fitting.
“That was just a bright, kind of, light to be a part of today,” Hayes told WTWO WAWV TV about the surprise. “You know, seeing everybody support him. [It was a] very pure experience watching him go chase his dreams.”
WTWO WAWV TV captured the touching moment when Hayes surprised Goodall with the car, and you can watch the video below. Additionally, Hayes shared his own video of the surprise, which you can also view below.
