Peter Frampton has returned with his first album of all-new rock music in 16 years, marking an important moment for the veteran guitarist and songwriter. The record, titled Carry the Light, will be released on Friday 15th May 2026 through UMe. The project signals a creative revival for Frampton, who has spent recent years performing live and revisiting classic material while fans wondered when new songs would arrive.
Frampton worked closely on the album with his son Julian, who co-wrote and produced the record. The collaboration brought a personal tone to the sessions, blending family connection with professional experience. Several well-known artists appear across the album, including Sheryl Crow, Tom Morello, Graham Nash, Benmont Tench, Bill Evans and H.E.R., each adding their own sound while keeping the focus on Frampton’s guitar-driven style.
A Personal Project Takes Shape
Speaking about the album, Frampton shared how meaningful the experience was for him after years without new studio material. The recording process allowed him to explore new ideas while still honoring the sound that made him famous. Working alongside Julian also changed the way he approached songwriting and production, giving the project a fresh energy.
“The ‘Carry The Light’ album is the first new music from me in 16 years,” says Peter Frampton. “It was one of my most enjoyable projects ever. I got to work with my son Julian — writing and producing together. A first of many for us, I’m sure.” He described the sessions as relaxed and creative, with ideas developing naturally as the team refined each track.
Honoring Tom Petty Through Music
The album’s first single, “Buried Treasure,” features keyboards from Benmont Tench of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. The song pays tribute to Tom Petty by building its lyrics from titles of his well-known songs. Its name also references Petty’s popular SiriusXM radio show, connecting the track to the late artist’s lasting influence on rock music and radio culture.
The release of Carry the Light will come in several formats, including CD, 180-gram yellow vinyl, and digital editions in stereo, hi-res audio, and immersive Dolby Atmos. A limited-edition vinyl with a premium cover and numbered copies will be sold exclusively through Peter Frampton’s official store, uDiscover Music, and Sound of Vinyl, offering collectors a special version of the album.
Looking Back While Moving Forward
Earlier this year, Frampton marked the 50th anniversary of his famous live record Frampton Comes Alive!, a release that helped define his career. The celebration renewed interest in his catalog while setting the stage for new material that reflects both experience and continued curiosity.
Tracklist includes: Carry The Light; Buried Treasure; I’m Sorry Elle; Breaking The Mold; I Can’t Let It Be; Lions At the Gate; Islamorada; Can You Take Me There; Tinderbox; At The End of the Day.
