Oh, Lemme Think, Lemme Think

“Remember (Walking in the Sand)” was written by Shadow Morton and originally recorded by the American pop girl group The Shangri-Las for their debut album “Leader of the Pack.” It was released in 1964 under Red Bird Records.

  • Peaked at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100
  • Number 9 on the Cashbox R&B Chart
  • Number 395 on the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” list by The Rolling Stone magazine

The song contains recurring seagulls-and-surf sound effects. He used The Shangri-Las on the demo, which he himself produced. (A not-yet-famous Billy Joel is said by Morton to have played the piano chords that open the song.)

Though there are several other versions of this song, the one by Aerosmith is the most popular. Their cover was more rock oriented and it also became a minor hit — peaking at number 67 on the US Billboard Hot 100. They released it on 1980 for their sixth album “Night in the Ruts.”

featuring uncredited backing vocals by Mary Weiss of the Shangri-Las as a single in 1980.

This stuff is just so good!
