Nikki Sixx Gives Sad Update On Motley Crue’s Future

Mötley Crüe’s new single, “Dogs of War,” was released on April 26. In a chat with Interview magazine, Nikki Sixx shared details about the band’s future plans, hinting at a shift away from full-length albums. “There’s no album on the table,” Sixx revealed, explaining that the current music landscape has changed the way they approach their releases.

Sixx elaborated:

“Nowadays, you get a thumbnail of the album art, listen to a few songs, and then get sidetracked. It ends up on a playlist. So, we’re focusing on creating more A-level songs rather than trying to write 10 or 11 tracks.”

Reflecting on their past, he noted:

“Even Dr. Feelgood, one of our most successful albums, has tracks that aren’t as strong as ‘Kickstart My Heart.’ I’d rather have 10 ‘Kickstart My Hearts’ over the next 10 years than a mix of hits and filler tracks.”

The band recorded three songs in early 2023. According to John 5, two of these tracks are originals, while the third is a cover of the Beastie Boys’ “(You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party!).”

Vince Neil Confirms Sixx’s Plans

Vince Neil confirmed the band’s new approach in a conversation with Loudwire Nights, stating:

“I don’t think you’re gonna see a full-length album anytime soon. It’s easier now just to do a few songs at a time and release them in the right ways. Albums don’t exist anymore in the same way. Back in the MTV generation, you’d buy an album and watch your favorite bands on TV. Now there are so many ways to consume music—streaming services and more.”

Despite the shift in strategy, Neil assured fans that new music will continue to be released, especially with the band’s new deal with Big Machine Records. He said:

“We’ve got one song ready to go.

“We don’t know when we’ll release it—maybe by the end of the year, maybe early ’25. But you’ll definitely hear new music from Mötley in the future.”

As the band gears up for their upcoming North American tour, fans can catch them live starting June 21 at Summerfest 2024, followed by a show in Mount Pleasant, MI, on June 23.
