Wolfgang Van Halen Flatly Rejects Joining Hagar on Stage for Van Halen Songs Because of This Reason

Straight Answer to the Question

Wolfgang Van Halen recently addressed the idea of performing Van Halen songs on stage with former singer Sammy Hagar during the Best of All Worlds Tour. In an interview on Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, he was asked if he might appear with Hagar and play a Van Halen song together.

When pressed with the question, “Would you ever jump on stage with Hagar on the Best of All Worlds Tour and do a Van Halen song?” Wolfgang answered clearly. “No. I know that’s not what people want to hear, but it’s not something I’m interested in doing,” he said.

He went on to explain his view of his musical goals. “I really want to build my own thing, and I think I don’t really want to play much of Van Halen music without my dad, anyways.”

Wolfgang’s comments show his focus is not on past hits or his family’s legacy in that setting. Instead, he wants to create and perform music that stands apart from Van Halen’s catalogue. His decision surprised some fans who assumed he might enjoy a one‑off appearance.

Focus on New Music

Wolfgang has been busy working on his own band, Mammoth. He released the latest album The End on October 24, 2025. On this record, he wrote, played, and recorded all the instruments and vocals himself, following the approach he used on his earlier albums.

The band shortened its name from Mammoth WVH to simply Mammoth ahead of the album’s release. The End includes singles such as “The End,” “The Spell,” “I Really Wanna,” and “Same Old Song.” It also shows Wolfgang building his own style rather than relying on the Van Halen brand.

Critics have noted the record as a strong entry in his catalogue, and it has appeared on charts in the U.S., the U.K., France, and Australia. It also continued his habit of handling every part of the music himself.

Touring and Performances

To support The End, Mammoth began a tour in early 2026. Shows have included dates in North America and plans for Europe and South America. The tour has featured other musicians, such as guitarist Frank Sidoris from Slash’s band. These shows give Wolfgang the chance to present his songs live and connect with fans.

His focus on his own work comes as he moves beyond being known mainly as the son of late guitarist Eddie Van Halen. The band’s earlier albums also performed well, with the debut Mammoth WVH reaching No. 12 on the Billboard 200 and earning millions of streams.

Wolfgang’s approach has been about building something personal and lasting. That is a key reason why he says he won’t play Van Halen songs with Hagar or other former band members.
