Twisted Sister have officially canceled their planned 2026 50th anniversary reunion tour after frontman and chief songwriter Dee Snider revealed serious ongoing health issues.

The band shared the news Thursday night in two statements posted to their official Facebook page, confirming that all scheduled performances—beginning April 25 in São Paulo—have been called off. The decision comes less than a year after Twisted Sister announced their return to the road, nearly a decade after concluding their “40 and F— It” farewell tour in November 2016.

In a 2025 press release announcing the reunion, Snider framed the return as a once-in-a-lifetime obligation to fans who had kept the band’s legacy alive for half a century.

“If you’re lucky enough to be in a band that people still want to see after fifty years(!), how can you not answer the call?” Snider said at the time. “In 2026, Twisted F—ing Sister will hit stages around the world because WE STILL WANNA ROCK!!”

The Health Toll Behind the Decision

According to the band’s statement, Snider, now 70, has been quietly battling degenerative arthritis for years and has undergone multiple surgeries to continue performing. Despite those efforts, he has often been able to perform only a handful of songs at a time, frequently in pain.

“Adding insult to injury, Dee has recently found out the level of intensity he has dedicated to his life’s work has taken its toll on his heart as well,” the statement explained.

The band emphasized that Snider’s signature performance style—defined by relentless physicality and uncompromising aggression—can no longer be sustained without putting his long-term health at serious risk. As a result, the singer made the difficult decision to step away rather than deliver a scaled-down version of the band’s live show.

“He can no longer push the boundaries of rock ‘n’ roll fury like he has done for decades,” the statement continued.

Walking Away on His Own Terms

Snider addressed the situation directly, making it clear that compromise was never an option for him as a performer.

“I don’t know of any other way to rock,” he said. “The idea of slowing down is unacceptable to me. I’d rather walk away than be a shadow of my former self.”

In closing their statement, the band invoked a line from Dirty Harry: “A man’s got to know his limitations.” They added, “Sadly, Dee Snider now knows his.”

While the cancellation brings disappointment for fans hoping to celebrate the band’s 50-year legacy one last time, the decision underscores a rare and increasingly uncommon reality in rock history: knowing when to stop. For a band whose entire identity was built on defiance, volume, and excess, choosing restraint may be the most uncharacteristic—and perhaps most human—final statement of all.

As the band noted, the future of Twisted Sister will be determined in the coming weeks. Whether or not this marks a definitive end, the group’s legacy remains intact—unchanged by silence, and still echoing with the sound of a band that refused to go out quietly or halfway.
