Joplin’s career skyrocketed following her legendary performance at the Woodstock Festival in 1969. Despite being high, she delivered one of the most memorable sets of the festival. Sadly, this was one of her last major performances.
In her final days, Janis Joplin appeared on The Dick Cavett Show, giving what would be one of her last interviews. Cavett greeted her warmly, noting her vibrant presence. They joked about her band, Full Tilt Boogie, and discussed the challenges of performing and dealing with the press. Joplin shared a story about a cop clubbing a fan who tried to kiss her during a show in Philadelphia, expressing her frustration with the situation. On October 4, 1970, Joplin was found dead in her hotel room at the Landmark Motor Hotel in Los Angeles. The official cause of death was a heroin overdose. Despite her untimely passing, Joplin’s legacy lives on through her music and unforgettable performances.
