You might assume that Stevie Nicks‘ favorite Beatle is John Lennon, especially since she wrote an entire song about him (“Edge of Seventeen”). But surprisingly, you’d be wrong. Nicks actually had a favorite Beatle who wasn’t John, and the connection she had with him runs deep. Let’s dive into which Beatle held the top spot in Stevie Nicks’ heart.
Nicks’ Bond with George Harrison
Stevie Nicks’ favorite Beatle is George Harrison. The two forged a close friendship that grew stronger amidst the whirlwind of fame. Nicks and Harrison spent a significant amount of time together, building a bond that meant a lot to the Fleetwood Mac singer. She even carried a special photo of the two of them, along with restaurant owner Bob Longhi, during her tours.
“When I go on the road it goes right on my makeup mirror,” Nicks once said. “So before I go on stage, whether it’s with Fleetwood Mac or me in my solo career, the three of us are looking back at me, and that has been my inspiration every single night.”
A Source of Inspiration
The photo of Harrison, Longhi, and Nicks became a constant reminder of the friendship she cherished. It became a source of strength for Nicks, especially on nights when she felt exhausted or unsure about performing.
“There’s lots of nights where you kind of go, I wish I didn’t have to go on stage tonight, I’m tired, I don’t feel like doing it, and I look at George Harrison and look at Longhi and look at me and I go: ‘Well, you just have to, because it’s important, it’s important to make people happy, so get out of your chair, put on your boots and go out there and do your thing,’” Nicks shared.
Their friendship wasn’t just about inspiration, though—it was filled with memorable moments. Nicks recalled spending time with Harrison in relaxed settings, far from the spotlight. One moment that stuck out was when they hung out in Acapulco while Nicks was working on Rumours.
“I knew George quite well,” Nicks reflected. “We spent some time just hanging out, and not really writing, but like pretending, trying.”
She also shared a fun memory from a Warner Bros. convention in Acapulco:
“George Harrison said, ‘They are coming for us, they are going to try to push us into that pool.’ He put his hand on my back, and said, ‘Absolutely, they’ll throw us in the pool so let’s get away from the pool.’”
A Lasting Impact
Although their friendship was tragically cut short by Harrison’s death, his influence on Nicks’ career and life remains profound. The memories of their friendship, and the inspiration she drew from him, continue to shape her music to this day.
